When I dragged myself onto the day's last bus, most of the city had been tucked inside the closed shutters, giving the night it's calm loneliness.
Staying hundreds of miles away from home is worst at nights, when you crave for a light to be alight for you, when you reach your nest.
Seeing me marinated in tiredness, the wind tried to force it's way through my hair to lighten things up inside the head. When the bus stopped at the signal, I looked outside, and I caught you staring at me from your window seat. Had I been looking too odd, with my head resting in my arms? I don't know why, but you smiled at me. A smile of reassurance, just the way my dad smiled, to let me know that everything's alright.
The bus jerked to life and yours overtook mine, leaving behind a lingering smile.
Lights were alight for the rest of the road...
